Tile, wood flooring, resin and polished concrete for interiors // Ideas and tips for every style

Interior Design  /  November 8, 2016

Small or spacious, the bathroom is a space that is gaining more importance inside the home, passing from a simple service area to an honest-to-goodness space dedicated to relaxation, wellness, and body care. As never before, in fact, companies are aiming towards solutions that are capable of combining functionality with comfort, offering innovative and quality materials and furnishings.

For the bathroom, Wall and floor coverings represent the starting point for planning out the project, and nowadays we have an extremely vast choice of materials at our disposal for every need and style, from classic tile to resin, from polished concrete to wood flooring. However, all these possibilities can increase the doubts and indecisions that come when making a choice that is, in most cases, definitive. In order to make the right choice, we can get our inspiration from our preferred style, favoring the materials, finishes, and colors that most characterize it.

Here are the styles that will dictate the rules in 2017:

SHABBY CHIC

The preferred style of romantics and collectors of items found in grandmother’s attic. In vogue for over ten years now, this style is still among the crowd favorites thanks to the warm and inviting atmosphere that is created by distressed surfaces and soft hues.  For shabby chic bathroom coverings, retro tiling is perfect, and different companies are offering them again using contemporary materials such as porcelain stoneware tiles in total white enamel effect. Another option to consider are cementine tiles (made of cement or porcelain stoneware) that reproduce traditional geometric or floral patterns that were once used exclusively as flooring but are now available as wall covering as well. It is a return to traditional so for format tiles, such as the classic 20 x 20 hexagon, which is one of the most popular shapes for 2017.

INDUSTRIAL CHIC

Perfect for lovers of minimalism and industrial archaeology: even here, as in shabby chic, the esthetic is characterized by objects and surfaces that are distressed and well worn.
Raw materials such as iron, cement, and unadulterated wood, simple shapes and sober colors characterize this masculine style. Industrially derived continuous surfaces in microcement, ecomalta, or resin are the most suitable. These coverings can be used for floors and walls or applied to any other surface, even for refinishing mantelpieces and masonry kitchens; moreover, thanks to the multiple decorative possibilities, from the incorporation of different materials to the type of finish, they guarantee a respectable scenographic result.

 ZEN MINIMALISM

For the Japanese taking care of the body has a ritual connotation, in the bath is a gathering place in which one seeks inner peace. If you are into this trend then a Zen bathroom is for you. Characterized by clean lines and simplicity of shapes, it favors natural materials such as stone and wood, even for the floor and wall coverings. With good judgement, you could even install parquet flooring in he bathroom, maybe pairing it with stone inserts placed around areas like the fixtures that are more subject to drips and puddles. The advantages and the allure of parquet flooring are undeniable: the beauty of the grain, the elegance, and the feeling of warmth that it transmits confer upon each locale a touch of refinement.

VINTAGE

I return to the shapes and colors of the 50s and 60s has characterized contemporary design for a couple of years now, and bathroom furnishings are no exception.
This style is right for anyone who prefers a modern look with an eye toward the past; it is both sober and feminine at the same time. For this style, one is given a green light for hyper imaginative ceramic coverings that come in pastel colors and bizarre patterns like 3D effect tiles and mosaics, which are big trends for 2017. Polished embossed patterns in geometric motifs, monochromatic or in contrast colors: adorn your bathroom by playing with empty and full spaces, simply leaving one wall or a portion of it painted a brilliant color in a way to create a pleasing contrast with the tiled surfaces. A vintage bathroom, with reminders of the happy baby boom years, is right for those who love style that is young and fun.
