The bathrooms of the stars

Inspirational  /  March 7, 2017

Luxurious, Pharaonic in size and sometimes excessive, the bathrooms of the stars, like their houses, have always been a source of inspiration: designed by internationally renowned interior designers or by the owners themselves, they often offer interesting ideas and original solutions.

Exquisite materials and attention to every small detail characterize these dream bathrooms, which seem designed for long sessions devoted to relaxation, body care, and other activities such as reading or meditation.

The must have element in the master bathrooms of the stars is the freestanding bathtub.

In the bathroom of her fabulous New York home, Naomi Watts has a contemporary oval tub placed in a vaulted niche in which golden elements stand out such as the Ralph Lauren chandelier and a large antique mirror: an elegant mix of styles and a refined color choice based on white, black, and gold.

Also in New York, Meg Ryan has chosen a retro industrial style for the furnishings of her loft: in her bathroom the free standing French-inspired porcelain bathtub is on full display in a raised position, with a large black industrial light fixture above it. The twin washbasins, placed on either side of the tub, are placed in black marble counters mounted on a tubular structure in chromed steel. The bathroom is very bright, thanks to an original coating of mirrors set above shiny white Subway tiles.

We move to Los Angeles to Jennifer Lopez’s mansion and in her bathroom which is furnished like a living room, complete with armchairs and library. At the glitzy mirror covered vanity is balanced by the basic freestanding bathtub, placed between two bookcases and with a view of the park: an original solution to have your favorite books within reach, perhaps to read a few pages while lying comfortably in the bathtub.

Also Christina Aguilera thinks of her bathroom as a living room where she can pleasantly entertain herself. She has a total black bathroom with marble coverings and a wonderful black VOV bath by MastellaDesign, with an oval shape and a neat design: there, Christina Aguilera loves to relax with her daughter while watching television.

Minimalist style, the bathroom of Matt Damon’s Miami mansion has a decidedly masculine character: dark wood furniture and floors, clean lines and acid green walls behind the twin sinks, highlighted by profiles lit with LED strips. To emphasize the visual effect, there’s a porthole placed above the bathtub with views of the lush garden.

Another feature common to many celebrity bathrooms is the size of the showers, which often occupy an entire room: enclosed in glass walls or open air, are equipped with every comfort imaginable, from multiple shower heads to seats.

The most spectacular shower stalls are the ones with exterior views, like Matthew Perry’s bathroom, whose full glass outer wall overlooks the ocean; or like the bathroom in director and film producer Michael Bay’s mansion, for which the architects designed a waterfall shower with stunning views of Los Angeles and the Santa Monica Mountains.

The bathroom vanities, double or a single element, are often custom designed and built. Whether they are simple openwork structures of wood or steel or large vanities with cabinet doors and drawers, they are always placed in the space in an original way, like Sarah Jessica Parker’s bathroom: the very simple twin vanities are placed separately in front of the room’s two windows, with mirrors hanging from the ceiling. Cameron Diaz, however, chose a bathroom vanity that is truly for a star for her home in Manhattan: the white lacquered front with top in Carrara marble has about thirty drawers with golden knobs, recalling the gilded tiles and flush sink.

Retro, industrial or contemporary, spartan or glitzy, the bathrooms of the stars luxuriously and comfortably combine that dramatic touch that reflects the owner’s personality, making them unique and inimitable.
