The power of mirrors in bathroom decor 2017

Interior Design  /  February 14, 2017

The mirror is one of the most indispensable elements in the bathroom: placed over the sink and often integrated into the vanity, this accessory has almost always played a secondary role. It’s style, shape, and size being adapted fit in with the rest of the furnishings.

Watching the trends for 2017 bathroom decor, the mirror is changing from a mere accessory into a multifunctional piece, in line with technological innovations that have already changed the way we use the kitchen and living areas.

The latest trends in design propose increasingly larger and thinner mirrors, clean lines and frame-less, wherein the decorative function is left to the lighting and integrated accessories. Beyond the traditional rectangular mirror, round or oval are very popular, which have the advantage enlivening the space, breaking the monotony of straight lines.

One big trend is back-lit LED mirrors which allow a wide variety of choice between lateral diffusion, on all sides or only above and below, often with the ability to vary the intensity and color of the  light. Thanks to LED technology, these models often come with a very useful accessory: the retro-inserted magnifying mirror with illuminated outline, ideal for makeup and facial care.

The new trends also signal a big return: mirrored cabinets. Practical and indispensable space savers for small bathrooms, the new models are inspired by kitchen cupboards, with elegant vertically opening doors and clean lines, thus maintaining both a high aesthetic level in addition to meeting functional requirements.

But the new frontier is the interconnected bathroom, and the vanity becomes the star instrument of the innovation: the smart mirror is born, through which you can listen to your favorite music, read e-mail, make a phone call, and even watch a movie. It sounds like science fiction, but today all this is possible thanks to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections; in addition to sophisticated integrated gadgets, such as the anti-steam system, digital clock, and the LED TV , these models have ports to insert USB keys and connect mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones.

In this range, the absolute top is the mirror 2.0, equipped with an interface that transforms its surface into a touch screen, just like tablets and smartphones. Thanks to hi-tech mirrors, the future also is also coming to the bathroom.
